I expect it can sharpened ceramics knaves, and it does, but not very aggressive.

Bought this to lap flat my norton whetstones. Works well on low grit stones but pretty slow cutter on the higher grits i. Easy to clean with some cream bathroom cleaner or toothpaste and a bristle brush. Best price for this item i could find online. Did take 6 days to arrive though. Although must add i took standard delivery option.

Perfect for flattening sharpening stones. Not recommended for sharpening knives or any other kind of metal because it wears down quickly. The diamonds themselves will not wear but the dismonds can become embedded into soft metals such as knive and be ripped out of the plate. Its ok for super hard materials like stones and ceramic knives.

The first one i recieved had a tiny imperfection (a bump in the casting) but amazon returns are so easy i got a replacement within a couple of days. The plate itself is great and cuts really nicely. I used to use nothing but water stones but having to flatten them all the time becomes a real pain. These dimaond stones are worth the investment and i'll be replacing my last two water stones once i have more funds.

Definitely worth spending a bit extra.

It has a very nice performance at this price range, i very enjoy it.

Very good quality sharpening solution. I use it to sharpen plane irons and chisels and i've not seen the slightest sign of fatigue after several months of use. Guaranteed flatness, and no need for lapping. To use, all that is needed is a small amount of liquid to lubricate (the manufacturer recommends water — glass cleaner is another option with no adverse effects), then sharpen, then wipe off the slurry (the swarf is sign that it's working). The plate is quite heavy, but it helps keeping everything in place while sharpening. Let it dry and store it away. I've found i can obtain results faster by applying very little pressure — no need to force weight down into the stone to sharpen. There is a small break-in period, after which i started getting bluish halos (photo attached).

This piece is part of an excellent system.

Sharpening Steels

Most steels are designed to align a knife's blade, but DMT diamond sharpening steels in 10-, 12- and 14-inch models will both align and hone the blade. All are continuous diamond surface but one 12-inch model is offered in DMT's HardCoat diamond surface, specifically designed to withstand the rigours of ceramic knife sharpening. For those who wish to sharpen with ceramic, DMT offers a 12-inch ceramic steel sharpener.

Care and Use of DMT Diamond Sharpeners

All models are designed to be used dry or with water so there are no messy oils and extensive clean up to worry about. Always clean the DMT sharpening surface after sharpening. Rinse surface with water and wipe dry. After several sharpenings, clean more thoroughly with a mild abrasive and brush; rinse surface with water and wipe dry.

Always put away dry and store in a dry environment. Use leafing (paper towels, cloth, plastic storage bag) in between your bench stones to prevent abrasive sides from rubbing.

About Sharpening with DMT

Get the Most out of your DMT Sharpener

There is a 'break-in' period for your diamond stone. Initially, it will feel especially rough but will smooth over time without impacting performance. Let the diamonds do the work; just light strokes with the edge to sharpen, same number of strokes each side. Approximately 5 or 6 strokes per side (depending upon condition of edge) compared to 30 strokes per side on a conventional stone, saving time and extending the life of the knife or tool. Start with a coarser grit for damaged or dull edges and work to finer grits. The work the edge is to do will help you determine the grit needed: Rough work, end with coarse grit (cutting cardboard); finer work, work through finer grits (food preparation).

I tried to use this as a lapping stone for my shapton glass stones. Did some test with the 4k and the 320, they now have fairly deep grooves in them that i have to work out with other means. I looked around, this d8c seems to be 325 grits from what i gathered so it explains the shiny sparkles i now have on my 320 glass. I'm gonna keep this to sharpen heavy duty tools.

Use it for lapping stones and geometry correct warped razors.

Packing sucked-very heavy in bottom of a large box with paper on top. Second time its happened but noone cares. Item is great-with patience and some skill-not alot this will put a great starter edge on a kitchen knife or bushlore knife. For kitchen its all you need-contrary to idea of a buffed edge. For finer finish use the finer diamond or cheaper use wet dry paper. Excellent lifetime investment. Unlike stones it doesnt wear.

Cuts well and cleans up easily.

Is flat stays flat and gives amazingly surprising edges for its grit rating. My favorite sharpening "stone" for knives and i have a lot of them including japanese waterstones.

This is a very aggressive, fast cutting sharpening system. The ability to use it dry makes it easier to work with since you don't have to worry about making a mess. The weight of the stone makes two handed sharpening possible without the need to anchor the 'stone' to a table. Be careful, it cuts metal fast.

When i opened this up i was surprised at how heavy it is, its just a big chunk of steel with a very uniform diamond grit on one side. As far as i can tell its perfectly flat and will stay that way for at least my lifetime. I'm very pleased with it, it does a great job flattening my other stones.

There are few diamonds sticking out front he surface. Be sure to nok it down before honing.

So happy i finally took the plunge and bought one. Now i need to buy in fine/super fine. I already have the wave sharpener in fine and it really does a fantastic job on gouges, so won't hesitate to buy more when i can afford to.

I had many manual, quick sharpeners but this one beats them all. A large slab of imbedded diamonds. So far it fulfils my expectations ( teamed it up with a nice leather strop).

Very good diamond stone going to use it to flatten my water stone i have.

Works great for lapping whetstones and cuts metal relatively fast for profiling an edge. Is also a good size for 95% of sharpening tasts. As far as the longevity of the plate it seems to be lasting. (had if for a few months and used often)good shipping from amazon as usual.
